About us

The SKEP network exists to:

Provide an international research platform to allow environment ministries, agencies and research councils to take part in transnational research calls and collaboratively generate the evidence needed to underpin environmental regulation, and

Increase the impact of this research on policy-makers by improving science into policy processes, and by building consensus and achieving critical mass

Network objectives

Network activities are managed under four objectives, each led by a member of the SKEP network, and supported by the secretariat and other network members.

  • Objective 1: Joint call management
  • Objective 2: Network development
  • Objective 3: Network communications
  • Objective 4: Information and staff exchange

Network history

From 2005-2009, SKEP was a European Research Network funded through the European Commission’s Sixth Framework Programme. Since June 2009, SKEP has functioned as an independent, subscription-based network.

Network members

There are currently nine member organisations in the SKEP network, comprising government ministries, environmental protection agencies and research councils across Europe. The network is coordinated by the Environment Agency for England and Wales.
